This wild and isolated trek offers days without encountering villages, crossings of high mountain passes, and the chance to explore the untouched beauty of Zanskar and Rupsho/Kharnak. Witness diverse wildlife, marvel at the serene Tsokar and Tsomoriri lakes, and visit the breathtaking Phuktal Monastery.

Detailed Day-Wise Itinerary

Day 1: Drive Padum to Phuktal (3923 m) - 4 hrs

Begin your journey with an easy drive from Padum to Cha, visiting the Bardan and Mune Monasteries. Pass through picturesque villages like Pibcha, Raru, and Ichar before reaching your campsite at Phuktal.

Day 2: Phuktal to Shade
(4211 m) - 5 hrs

Start with a short ascent, then descend while navigating some narrow paths. Cross a small river before Thangtak, a village with a charming monastery, and arrive at the beautiful village of Shade for your overnight camp.

Day 3: Shade to Base Nyalokongtse (4253 m) - 4hrs

Enjoy a relaxed trek descending to Thangtak village, then continue along the Nyalokongtse valley to your campsite at the base – remember, this is your last chance for drinking water.

Day 4: Base Nyalokongtse to Hormoche (3923 m)

Prepare for the longest day with an early start. Ascend to Nyalokongtse Pass (4430 m), then Gotungtala (4620 m), taking time to admire the stunning lake view. Descend to the old village of Shun (you may spot wildlife!), and reach your camp near a small monastery.

Day 5: Hormoche to Satak (4011 m) - 5 hrs

Trek past Shun village, cross a river, and follow a pleasant path with gentle ascents and descents. Arrive in the evening at Satak, a single-house village now abandoned by residents who have migrated to Chumikgasa.

Day 6: Satak to Tsometsik (4079 m) - 5 hrs

avigate a day of gentle ups and downs, admiring the beautiful scenery. Cross a small bridge en route to your campsite at Tsokmetsek, surrounded by lush vegetation.

Day 7: Tsometsik to Takstago (4550 m) - 6.5 hrs

Begin with an easy walk through valleys, then a steep climb to Morangla Pass. Rest at the top, then descend through broad plateaus and valleys to your campsite.

Day 8: Takstago to Zabuk Yokma (4327 m) - 5 hrs

Face a short, steep climb, followed by a descent through meadows and stunning landscapes. Camp overnight.

Day 9: Zabuk Yokma to Spangchen (4622 m) - 5 hrs

Immerse yourself in the Rupsho/Kharnak Valley, with its abundant wildlife and nomadic communities. Pass through small villages en route to your camp.

Day 10: Spangchen to Pangunugu/Tsokar Lake (4653 m) - 5.5 hrs

oin up with a road and drive to Tsokar Lake. Spend the afternoon exploring the area and walking to the lakeshore (45 min).

Day 11: Drive back to Leh via Taglangla Pass

Enjoy the scenic drive, with an optional visit to Thiksay Monastery.
